SHE REMEMBERED STANDING AT A WINDOW JUST LIKE THIS AFTER RORY WAS BORN, christopher had been at her side, and lorelai couldn’t bring another moment to mind where she’d felt more terrified. this time was much different, though. she was older, she’d already successfully raised one kid on her own, and she was more than ready to do it again —– with a little help this time. her gaze rested lovingly on one of the faces on the other side of the glass, a perfect little face, sound asleep —– one of the most beautiful faces she’d ever laid eyes on ( though there might’ve been some level of bias involved ). luke had taken off a while back to eat ( and make sure rory did the same ), and lorelai had found herself growing restless. she’d never been very good at sitting still for very long. even though she was exhausted, and probably shouldn’t have even considered going anywhere where actual people ( the kind that weren’t family, or doctors, or nurses ) could lay eyes on her until she’d showered, the idea of slipping out to stand here, staring at her SON had sounded more appealing than looking for something decent to watch on tv.
she wasn’t even sure how long it’d been that she’d just been standing here, staring —– clearly not long enough that anyone had raised any alarms or come searching for her, but long enough that she felt she’d already committed little william’s face to memory. attention had been focused on making sure she knew exactly what his tiny nose looked like when she felt arms wrap around her. she jumped a little before prying her eyes away from the sleeping newborn to look at her husband, a grin sitting on her lips. “hey —– that’s our KID,” she whispered, grasping one of his hands, “so crazy, isn’t it? he’s so —— perfect. he’s perfect,”
HE HADN’T BEEN BY LIZ’S SIDE WHEN JESS WAS BORN, nor did he really want to be there as his mess of a sister gave birth, but he does remember the first time he laid eyes on his nephew. luke had gotten an overwhelming need to protect the newborn at all costs. he remembers the first time jess broke a bone and now scared he had been; not that he told anyone. he remembers the first time he laid eyes on rory, a cute little eleven-year-old with huge blue eyes and brown hair, and he fell in love with her, becoming sort of a father figure to the young girl. he remembers walking into the school gym, laying eyes on the board that told him that april was his, that he has a daughter. he did everything in his power to be the father she DESERVES. he didn’t get the chance to be there every step of the way with april. he remembers lorelai telling him that they were expecting and how amazed he was with the idea of having a child with her.
now, he has the love of life wrapped up in his arms and a newborn baby boy to stare at. luke had taken a break from being by his wife side to get some food into his system and on his way back to her room, he found her standing in front of the nursery window. he wonders briefly if she had done the same thing when rory was born, but he doesn’t say anything, simply wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder. “ just like his mom, ” he whispers back, moving his head to press a soft kiss to her cheek.
